A curious moment has been starred by the kings of Spain. King Felipe VI and Queen consort Letizia Ortiz were at the presentation of the National Research Awards 2022 held in the Spanish town of Alicante.
The ceremony recognizes the work of Spanish researchers. At the event the king called for more institutional support for the sector, especially for young scientists.
Queen Letizia corrects to King Felipe
During the ceremony, the queen did not think much about skipping protocol and correcting the king in public. Felipe and Letizia took turns giving the awards to each of the winners, but when the queen took one of the trophies in her hands to hand it over, the monarch discreetly indicated to her that it was her turn. However, Letizia kept the award in her hands and corrected the king with a resounding gesture.
As the winner approached the stage, Letizia explained to Felipe that it was she who should present the award, pointing to herself with her index finger and keeping the prize in her hands at all times. The king, smiling, simply nodded, agreeing with the monarch while the rest of the ceremony went on as normal.
This is not the first time that the queen “corrects” her husband in public. Spanish have always remembered that public appearance when the engagement of the then Prince and Princess of Asturias was announced. Letizia revealed her character with that “let me finish”.
