Although many people think that royalty are beings “from another planet” just because they belong to the monarchy, the truth is that they are as common as any other person, but with noble titles. That was what Queen Letizia herself wanted to make a woman who asked her an uncomfortable question in a supermarket understand.
El País Semanal published an extensive report on the occasion of the Queen’s 50th birthday, on September 15. The publication revealed the particular moment that the mother of Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia had to live.
What Queen Letizia said to a woman in a supermarket
The portal highlighted that the Spanish consort enjoys fulfilling some daily tasks, among them, buying supplies and stocking the pantry. In one of these outings she had an encounter with a woman who questioned her about being in a greengrocer’s shop.
“And you, what are you doing here?” asked the woman to which Queen Letizia did not take long to answer sharply: “Well look, like you, buying tomatoes”. A response with which the monarch wanted to normalize the fact that it was up to her to go out shopping.
The anecdote also makes it clear that the consort is not one to smile and keep quiet, on the contrary, it is well known her quickness to give accurate words to comments and opinions of third parties. The same report states that the Spanish queen sent a couple of women to read when they “recommended” her to dye her gray hair. This happened last June during the Book Fair in Madrid.
