The story behind the divorce of King Felipe and Queen Letizia

King Felipe of Spain and Queen Letizia of Spain are the most solid couple in the Spanish royal family, but they do not escape divorce rumors.

Spanish media very critical of the monarchy have been reporting about the crisis in the relationship between Felipe and Letizia. What would happen if they divorce or just separate?

In the world of Spanish royalty, love seems to be cursed for the Royal House. Since the first forced marriage between Juan Carlos and Sofia things have not gone well, although they have never divorced, they did cease their cohabitation.

Then came the divorce of the Infanta Elena with Jaime de Marichalar, and then came the most recent divorce, that of the Infanta Cristina, who discovered the infidelity of her husband, Iñaki Urdangarin through the press.

The marriage that seems to be the only one going ahead is that of Felipe and Letizia, who are celebrating their 19th anniversary together this year. Despite having gone through different crises, the strongest was when the Nóos case burst with the involvement of Iñaki Urdangarin and his imprisonment, it splashed the crown, and the royals were questioned.

It is said that the quick action of Queen Letizia, removing all members of the family from the public image, avoided a catastrophe. However, this year the tension has reappeared between Felipe and Letizia due to the military training that the future Queen of Spain, their daughter Princess Leonor, will have to receive. Added to this is the disagreement over the career she will study since Felipe wants the Princess of Asturias to study law, like him, but it is said that his daughter wants to study engineering.

King of Spain’s divorce: Queen Letizia prefers separation?

Despite the bad times that any marriage can go through, the kings of Spain would never divorce and not because it would be a dishonor for the crown, but because there is a lot at stake.

In case of divorce (canonical dissolution of the marriage) Letizia would lose the title of Queen Consort and the treatment of Royal Highness. If the marriage simply separates (without dissolution of the bond) Letizia would keep the title and the treatment, as she is the mother of the future queen, according to the Catalan portal El Nacional.

For now, King Felipe and Queen Letizia continue to resist and their love seems to withstand crises and pressures in difficult times.
