Queen Letizia, 50, surprised everyone this Wednesday, May 31, when she made a surprise visit to the Madrid Book Fair. The Spanish consort wore her most formal look.

Unlike other editions, the wife of Felipe VI, 55, did not inaugurate the literary event nor was she scheduled to attend according to her official agenda.

Accompanied only by her bodyguard, the monarch toured several stands of booksellers and publishers. The bookstores Pérgamo, Machado, Siruela, Sílex, and Altamera were lucky enough to receive Letizia’s visit.

During her tour, the mother of Princess Leonor, 17, and Infanta Sofia, 16, had the opportunity to exchange literary opinions with others present. She was also able to have a conversation with Eva Orúe, director of the event.

For this spontaneous outing, the queen opted for a casual and classic outfit to go unnoticed. Wearing black cropped jeans and a black and white striped sailor sweater with a round neck, she completed her look with ballerinas and a simple black studded bag.

What books did Queen Letizia buy?

Taking advantage of the visit, the Spanish consort acquired some readings for the summer, among them ‘The Use of the Photo’, by Annie Ernaux; ‘The City of God’, by Pier Paolo Pasolini; ‘Lovecraft’, by Antonio Jiménez Morato; ‘Hawthorne Letters’, by Herman Melville; and ‘The Walk’, by Robert Walser, as confirmed by sources of the Book Fair consulted by Europa Press.

With this visit, the queen demonstrates her firm commitment to the world of culture and her passion for reading.

The Queen of Spain with a busy schedule

Queen Letizia’s agenda continues without rest. Recently, we saw her presiding over the Red Cross Gold Medal Awards, where she surprised us by speaking in Ukrainian. For the occasion, Leonor’s mother wore a long shirt dress with a very original print.
