Over the years, the public perception of Queen Letizia of Spain has undergone a remarkable evolution.

From the moment she entered the Spanish Royal Household, Letizia Ortiz was castigated by her detractors who criticized her for being a “divorced commoner.”

Those critics made Letizia more serious, regal and even strict when it came to attending appointments on the royal agenda.

Leonor and Sofia’s mother had a much lower profile and in the shadows, with fewer smiles, taking a step back, always seeking to be as correct as possible and with a solemnity that sometimes frightened.

However, little by little she has implemented a strategy that has worked very well for her, showing a more friendly and human side, breaking with the solemnity that once characterized her.

Her relationship with the press, her speeches and her transparency at events have contributed to strengthening her role as royal consort.

Despite personal challenges, such as her relapse from Morton’s Neuroma, Letizia has shown a positive and friendly attitude during her official engagements.
