Ten years ago, Queen Letizia stood up at a gala in Copenhagen with a jewel that until then had remained in storage.
It was the night of April 15, 2015, during the dinner for the 75th birthday of Queen Margrethe of Denmark, when Letizia, who had already been Queen of Spain for less than a year, managed to stand out with something no one had seen before: the Princess tiara.
Queen Letizia’s Princess Tiara
It was not a borrowed jewel or an inheritance from previous queens. It was a personal gift from King Felipe, who gave it to her in 2009 for their fifth wedding anniversary, but until then it had remained hidden.
It was not because she did not like it, but because the country was going through difficult times and she, very conscious of gestures, had decided not to show it.
The piece of the firm Ansorena was who created it in white gold with 450 diamonds and ten large pearls, inspired by the Fleur de Lis, symbol of the monarchy.
This jewel has something that jewelers like and that is that it is removable.
In the central part it can be used as a brooch, and this is how Letizia has worn it on other occasions, without so much fuss.
That night in Denmark was the only time the Queen wore it as a tiara. Since then, she has not worn it again.
Since then, it has fueled theories: is she saving it for Leonor, or perhaps for Sofia, or is it that it is not comfortable or that it does not go with certain hairstyles? The truth is that it remains a mystery.
For many experts in royal jewelry, the real value of the tiara is in its pearls.
This piece does not have huge stones or sparkle more than others in the royal jewelry box, it is not ostentatious, but it does not go unnoticed either. And that, in the world of tiaras, is almost a rarity.
Ten years after its premiere, the Princess tiara is still a jewel full of mystery and perhaps that is its greatest charm.
