On Saturday, May 25, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia presided over the annual Armed Forces parade.
The main ceremony, featuring nearly 3,300 soldiers from the three military branches and the Civil Guard, took place in Oviedo, Asturias—a special place for Letizia as it is her birthplace and the namesake of her daughter Leonor’s title.
A day earlier, on May 24, King Felipe attended an aerial parade in Gijón. The next day, he and Queen Letizia traveled to Oviedo for the central parade.
The parade route began at Plaza de la Paz and continued along Avenida Padre Vinjoy, Avenida Hermanos Menéndez Pidal, and Calle Ángel Muñiz Toca.
The royal couple was joined by Defense Minister Margarita Robles and Chief of Defense Staff Admiral Teodoro Esteban López Calderón, among others.
Queen Letizia’s Red Suit at Oviedo Armed Forces Parade
As always, Queen Letizia’s outfit drew much attention. In 2023, she
For the 2024 parade, Letizia had to accommodate a broken toe, requiring her to wear sneakers.
She opted for a new red pantsuit with wide legs, ideal for pairing with her white sneakers.
The suit, from Mango and priced at US$100, was paired with a matching lacy top.
Letizia accessorized with earrings she has worn before, first seen in 2013 at a Beverly Hills party hosted by then-U.S. Ambassador James Costos.
The white gold and ruby earrings from Aldao Jewelers have become a favorite, including during a previous Armed Forces Day in Seville.
King Felipe wore the navy blue uniform of the Captain General of the Air Force, adorned with a red sash.
After receiving military honors, he reviewed the troops. The king and queen then greeted officials before the traditional parachute jump over the area in front of the Royal Stand.
This jump included the Spanish flag, followed by its raising and a tribute to those who gave their lives for Spain.
The parade was opened and closed by the Patrulla Águila, Spain’s air acrobatics team.
