After almost four months without seeing each other, Queen Letizia has decided to pack her bags and cross the Atlantic to be reunited with her eldest daughter, Princess Leonor.
The long-awaited meeting will take place in Panama, just when the training ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano calls at the port.
Letizia and Leonor’s reunion in Panama
Leonor, who embarked in January from Cadiz as part of her military training, will be able to receive visitors for the first time since she set sail. And among all the families who will meet the midshipmen will also be Queen Letizia.
The Zarzuela Palace confirmed that her trip has no official character. It does not appear in the institutional agenda, but that does not diminish its importance.
This reunion comes at a complicated time for Letizia. During the week she was forced to modify her schedule due to a massive power outage that affected Spain.
She canceled a trip to Jaén, just the day the Infanta Sofía came of age, and also suspended an event in Salamanca.
However, his agenda will soon be reactivated. On May 9 she will attend the Madrid Book Fair, on the Cuesta de Moyano.
Despite not having any public engagements, the Queen has not stopped preparing for what is to come.
Between official acts, trips and unforeseen situations, she found time to visit Leonor.
During the stop in Panama, the Juan Sebastián de Elcano will open its doors to the public. This is a common occurrence during these stopovers.
After Panama, the voyage continues. The ship will cross the canal and sail to the Caribbean. Cartagena de Indias, Santa Marta and Santo Domingo are on the roadmap.
In New York, the last stop before returning, there is speculation of a possible reception by the U.S. president and a visit by Queen Sofia. However, this has not yet been confirmed.
Leonor’s training will conclude a few days later, on July 14, at the Escuela Naval de Marín.
