Queen Letizia has once again been on everyone’s lips thanks to the wonderful jewelry she has worn at the traditional reception for the diplomatic corps accredited in Spain.
After more than 20 years in storage, she has recovered a key piece in her history as a royal: the sapphire and diamond necklace that the then King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia gave her when she announced that she was marrying the then Prince Felipe.
A design of great sentimental value that has given a very special touch to her look, completed by matching earrings and a bracelet that, yes, has played a trick on her.
Queen Letizia’s sapphire and diamond necklace
With a flattering navy blue shirt dress, XXL length model with V-neckline, marked waist, long sleeves, and a wide skirt with flight that completely covered the shoes she has chosen for the occasion. Letizia has recovered one of the most emblematic pieces of her years as a royal: the necklace of sapphires and diamonds in a teardrop shape.
It is a design that belonged to the emeritus Queen Sofia and that she decided to give to her daughter-in-law when she announced that she was marrying Don Felipe, back in 2003.
The now queen consort wore it for the first time precisely at the pre-wedding dinner that took place in May 2004 at the palace of El Pardo, combining it with matching earrings and a flattering pearl gray dress by Lorenzo Caprile.
Since then, she has rarely been seen with it, so it has been a surprise that she decided to recover it for such an important event, giving a plus of glamour to her styling.
And it is undoubtedly a piece full of symbolism for the Queen of Spain. But the necklace was not the only special piece that the Queen wore at this event.
Queen Letizia’s mishap
She has also opted for sapphire earrings, a jeweled brooch (inherited from Queen Victoria), and a sapphire and diamond bracelet that has given her more than one headache.
It turns out that, after the numerous greetings and handshakes to the guests, in an oversight, Letizia has dropped the bracelet to the ground.
When she noticed it, she quickly bent down to pick it up, asking for Don Felipe’s help to fasten it again before the attentive gaze of those present.
A very funny anecdote that reminded us of what happened last January 2022, when the Queen also dropped her jeweled brooch during the Military Easter (precisely when she was wearing this same dress).
On that occasion, it was King Felipe who picked up the jewel and solved the mishap.
