Did you know that Queen Letizia had a secret diary where she wrote details of her life? Well yes, the wife of King Felipe apparently did not want anyone to discover her intimate secrets.
The queen consort of Spain decided to radically change her life when she started dating the then Prince Felipe. Throughout these almost 19 years the monarch has made great sacrifices for the monarchy and has faced some uncomfortable situations.
Queen Letizia’s diary
The expert on Spanish royalty, Pilar Eyre, revealed that the mother of Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia at the beginning of her relationship with Felipe had to destroy her personal diary where she wrote the things she did not like about the monarchy.
“When she protested, the ‘staff’ of the Zarzuela told her: ‘Make lists, ma’am’, and she always went with a notebook in which she wrote down everything,” Eyre said. The journalist clarified that King Felipe himself had it destroyed. “So that it would not fall into the hands of others”.
She added: “When he burned that kind of diary in the fireplace of the palace, perhaps he also realized that he was burning his past to start a new life”.
Queen Letizia also had to leave her job as a journalist, a profession that led her to meet her husband. She was passionate about journalism and had been working in the media for years. The last stage was spent as a news anchor, where from one day to the next she stopped appearing.
“She had to leave her profession, which she loved, and moved to live in the prince’s gloomy house, where she spent months taking classes in protocol, history, English, religion…”. She had to spend hours and hours for months preparing for her new role as a member of this institution. And not only that. Her role as princess meant that she had no say in some matters,” said the royal expert.
She also clarified that Queen Letizia did not have a say in some of the preparations for her wedding to Felipe on May 22, 2004.
Letizia had to adapt to a family in which everything is measured in detail and in which many decide for her.
