Since ascending the throne in 2014, the King and Queen of Spain have made several state visits to different countries.
During each trip, Queen Letizia has showcased her best dresses at state banquets.
Felipe VI and Queen Letizia always have an evening engagement featuring long dresses, tiaras, and historic jewelry.
Queen Letizia’s Gala Dresses
Let’s review the best gala dresses worn by Letizia Ortiz outside Spain. Which one is your favorite?
The Most Worn Gala Dress
One of Letizia’s latest gala looks couldn’t be left off this list.
It’s a Felipe Varela creation she debuted in 2015, worn on multiple occasions, and last seen in November last year during her State visit to Denmark.
It’s a piece with a fitted bodice and a full skirt, made of midnight blue fabric entirely covered with embroidery of crystal marine prussia and sapphire threads.
She paired it with the Fleur-de-lis tiara, also known as ‘the tiara of queens.’
The Red Dress Worn with Queen Elizabeth II
In 2017, the royal couple made a State visit to the UK, producing one of the most iconic images of the monarch: hers alongside Queen Elizabeth II.
That historic encounter was also a fashion success thanks to the consort’s choice of attire.
The standout was an impressive red dress by Felipe Varela with a bardot neckline and a trailing skirt, paired with the fleur-de-lis diadem worn for the first time in 2017.
She also wore the Order of Charles III sash.
The Carolina Herrera Dress Worn in Japan
The outfits Letizia wore on the 2019 trip to Tokyo have become legendary, especially the one worn during the gala dinner in honor of Japan’s new Emperor.
It was a Carolina Herrera pink design that ranks among her favorites.
This exclusive made-to-measure garment featured a jewel-embroidered floral cape inspired by a mantón de Manila, fitting her perfectly.
The ensemble was complete with jewelry: the Fleur-de-lis tiara, the matching brooch, Cartier twin bracelets (one of her favorites), and diamond earrings from her collection.
The H&M Dress from Sweden
During their visit to Sweden in November 2021, the King and Queen chose an exquisite blue dress from H&M for the gala dinner, paying homage to the host country.
It was a sleeveless midnight blue design made of shiny tulle, part of H&M’s Conscious sustainable collection.
She paired it with the Fleur-de-lis tiara, Cartier twin bracelets, diamond earrings, and her signature gold ring.
Cobalt Blue Dress by The 2nd Skin
For their most recent state visit to the Netherlands, the Spanish royals attended a state banquet where Letizia donned a new gala dress in cobalt blue.
The dress, designed by The 2nd Skin, featured a box neckline, Japanese sleeves, and bow details on the cuffs.
The outfit was complemented by the imposing Russian tiara, a brooch from the queen-to-queen inherited jewelry collection, and diamond earrings.
