Although all eyes were on Princess Leonor, her mother, Queen Letizia, also shone brightly at the emotional farewell ceremony for the princess before setting sail.
From RoyalFamily.news we have shared that the day was full of emotions for the queen, who could not hold back her tears as she said goodbye to her daughter.
Leonor, at 19 years old, will spend six months at sea learning about sailing, an undoubtedly exciting experience, although this did not prevent the lump in the throats of her parents, King Felipe and Queen Letizia, as they watched their little girl sail away.
But, emotions aside, there is one fascinating detail that we cannot overlook: the headband that Queen Letizia wore that day.
Queen Letizia’s headband
Upon arriving at the Port of Cadiz, the King and Queen of Spain were greeted with great anticipation.
Letizia opted for a slightly more discreet style. Her choice of wardrobe had a special message for Leonor.
The queen wore a blue suit consisting of a straight blazer and straight pants, combined with a white Carolina Herrera blouse with a delicate bow at the neck. But what really caught the eye was her headband.
This accessory was adorned with golden leaves and small pearls, providing a romantic and sophisticated touch, but also fulfilling a more practical function: it kept her hair up, protecting her face from the wind that always blows in the harbor.
Most poignantly, the queen wanted her youngest daughter, Infanta Sofia, to be present in some way.
To do so, she chose the same tiara that Sofia had worn at a special moment in the past, symbolizing family unity at such a significant moment. Sofia was unable to be at her sister’s farewell because she was at UWC Atlantic College in Wales.
Going back in time to 2015, at Princess Leonor’s First Communion at Santa María de los Rosales College, we see that Sofia wore the same headband that her mother wore to say goodbye to Leonor.
This gesture, which brought together memories in a single accessory, brought to mind the idea that, somehow, the family was united in that emotional moment.
