A new controversy is shaking the Spanish royal family, and this time the protagonist is Queen Letizia of Spain.
The wife of King Felipe became the center of attention on social media for an alleged photo of her wearing a pashmina and a “very affectionate” message to her ex-brother-in-law, Jaime del Burgo, her alleged lover.
The Spanish press dubbed the case “the pashmina scandal,” and it all started after the publication of the book by Jaime Peñafiel, a 91-year-old veteran writer specializing in the royal family and a critic of Queen Letizia.
The author of the book, entitled “Letizia y yo”, reveals several aspects of the current Queen of Spain’s life, including an alleged affair with her former brother-in-law.
Burgo claims he met the queen in 2000 when Letizia was single and wanted to propose to her, but her relationship with then-Prince Felipe got in the way.
Shortly after, he began a romantic relationship with Telma, Letizia’s sister. He married her in 2012 and divorced her in 2014.
What did the alleged lover of Queen Letizia say?
Well, Jaime del Burgo shared an unpublished photo of Queen Letizia on his X profile. In the picture, the pregnant queen appears wearing a pashmina.
In addition, he accompanied the image with a text that appears to have been written by Queen Letizia, hinting at an alleged sentimental relationship between the two.
“Love. I am wearing your pashmina. It’s like I feel you by my side. It takes care of me. It protects me. I count the hours to see you again. To love you. To get out of here. Yours,” read the message allegedly written by Letizia.
However, the post was deleted a few hours later and there has been no trace of it since.
News portal The Objective reported that the lawyer and businessman had made some revelations about his alleged romance with King Felipe’s wife on his X-rated profile.
Burgos recounted details of the intimacy with the Queen, as the two allegedly declared their love for each other and that the last time they saw each other was on May 20, 2004 at a restaurant near the Zarzuela Palace.
Notably, according to Burgos, the encounter occurred two days before Letizia’s wedding to then-Prince Felipe.
Burgos also recounted alleged trips with Letizia to Venice, Cape Verde, Greece, USA, the English countryside, Provence in France, “until the end of 2014.”
He even floated the idea that he and the Queen had discussed the monarch’s divorce and that they would both move to New York. However, none of these revelations are available on his social media, as he has deleted them.
Who is Jaime del Burgos?
Jaime del Burgos is a 53-year-old entrepreneur and investor who has developed several projects in the digital, real estate, security, and restaurant industries. Among his businesses is the online sale of Italian gourmet products, reports The Objective.
Del Burgo lives in Switzerland with his wife, lawyer Lucía Díaz Liljestrom, and their young daughter, Ulla.
The Spanish royal family has not commented on the new scandal.
