Each time Queen Letizia leaves Madrid to carry out her institutional duties, a rigorous protocol is activated to ensure her safety and health.
This protocol includes a series of measures that are prepared in advance and adapted to the characteristics of each destination.
Queen Letizia’s travel protocol
An example of how complicated protocols can be was the Queen’s recent trip to Salamanca, where she presided over the presentation of the Salamanca Ciudad del Español project.
As reported in the newspaper OkDiario, the owners of vehicles parked along the route that the Queen was to follow had to remove them beforehand, as part of the royal household’s security arrangements.
They were also asked to reserve a bag of blood of the same group as Queen Letizia, 0+, in case a transfusion was necessary.
This blood group is the most common in Spain, so there are usually no supply problems.
However, this was not the case for King Juan Carlos, who has group A-, which is much less common among spanish.
Another measure taken was to reserve a room in the emergency room of the nearest hospital, as well as another room in case the Queen needed to be admitted.
Similarly, an ambulance is at the Queen and her team’s disposal from the moment of their arrival at the airport until the end of their visit.
These requests are not exclusive to Queen Letizia, but apply to all members of the Royal Family when they travel on official business.
This ensures that they receive the best possible medical care in the event of an emergency.
