Mary, the new queen of Denmark, 52, and Princess Kate Middleton, 42, are worthy representatives of royal fashion.
These elegant commoner women who married their prince blues share a special bond reflected in their impeccable style.
Both women are defining how a monarch should dress in the 21st century, inspiring each other on many occasions.
Mary of Denmark and Kate Middleton dress alike
Both Mary and Kate have a reputation as trendsetters and understand the relationship between fashion, image, and diplomacy. Always glamorous, they move easily from trouser suits to dresses with headdresses, standing out for their elegance.
It is not surprising that on many occasions they have opted for very similar looks. Either with the same outfit at different times or with different designs but similar effects.
Even Karl Lagerfeld called them “royal sisters” for their obvious stylistic link, as they inspire and influence each other in their fashion choices.
For many, Queen Mary is Kate Middleton’s style benchmark. And it is hoped that now as queen, Kate will take note of her style for her own coronation in the future.
Kate and Mary in a dress by Beulah London
Mary and Kate share the same affection for the British brand Beulah London, both have worn the same 50’s inspired midi dress. Queen Mary wore it in 2019 and Princess Catherine in 2021.
It is a design, from the cap sleeves to the button placket at the chest and a tone-on-tone belt with a ruffled skirt. A staple of both royal closets.
Patterned dress
Another dress from the same British brand shared by Kate and Mary is the blue print dress with a white collar. Kate wore it in 2020 with dark blue heels, while Mary wore it in 2021 with nude ballerinas.
Polka dot dress
A dress that both royals have compared similarity, is the dress designed by Alessandra Rich that Kate wore in 2022 for the commemoration of the death of Prince Philip. Mary had already worn it in 2019. Both dresses are long-sleeved and belted with classic white polka dots on a black background.
Same model but a different color
Mary wore this knee-length dress by designer Emilia Wickstead in 2015 in a light blue version. The Princess of Wales wore it in a different shade in 2017.
Girls in suits
Mary wore this forest green suit in 2022, a Massimo Dutti ensemble. Kate wore a similar design by Burberry in 2023. Both combined it with a white shirt.
Plaid coat
Mary wore this Baum und Pferdgarten coat in 2019. Kate recently wore a similar plaid coat but designed by Holland Cooper.
As Mary makes history as the first Australian-born queen of Denmark, these stylish royal sisters will continue to set trends with their fabulous looks. And proving that royalty and style can always go hand in hand with the right inspiration.
