Frederik and Mary of Denmark are enjoying a memorable trip through Greenland, this being their first tour as kings since their proclamation on January 14, 2024.
The breathtaking scenery of the island and the warm reception of the citizens have made this visit very special.
Accompanied by their twins, Vincent and Josephine, the King and Queen showed their appreciation by wearing traditional Greenlandic costumes on their fourth day of stay.
Queen Mary in Traditional Dress in Greenland
Mary, who until now had opted for warm attire in neutral tones such as beige and gray, surprised by wearing the colorful qaqortumaartoq in the village of Sisimiut.
This feminine outfit consists of an anorak covered by a blouse called timmiaq, made of wool and decorated with vibrant prints.
These bright colors are said to be used to counteract the dark and cold Greenlandic landscape.
The queen completed her outfit with black pants that reached to the top of the thigh, where the kamiks, the traditional boots made of sealskin, long, wide and lined, with silk floral decorations on top, began.
Mary of Denmark wore her hair half-up and amethyst earrings, as well as the Grønlands Selvstyre medal, which was awarded to her for her commitment to the social conditions of Greenlandic children and youth.
King Frederik also wore the typical costume, which is simpler in comparison.
His attire consisted of a white silk anorak with hood and pockets, black pants and sealskin boots.
The King of Denmark wore several Danish and Greenlandic medals and honors, highlighting his connection and respect for the local culture.
During their stay in Sisimiut, Vincent and Josephine disembarked from the Dannebrog, the royal yacht on which the family travels, to participate in some activities with their parents.
The twins did not wear national costumes on this occasion, unlike their previous visit in 2014.
Josephine, in particular, sported a navy blue plaid coat from Massimo Dutti, borrowed from her mother’s closet. This coat, which Mary has had for ten years, has also been worn previously by Princess Isabella.
Josephine paired the coat with a gray anorak, a turtleneck sweater and straight-leg pants, completing her look with black suede booties.
The Danish royal tour of Greenland will continue until Saturday, July 6.
