Queen Mathilde of Belgium has made a somewhat controversial appearance by sporting an incredible, but hugely expensive garment.
Known for her typically understated and modest fashion choices, the Queen of the Belgians surprised everyone last Monday evening by debuting a Giorgio Armani jacket valued at over US$17,000.

Mathilde attended a violin concert performed by the contestants of the Queen Elisabeth Music Competition, an event to which she is closely linked.
She attended in private, without journalists or photographers. However, a member of the audience shared images on social media, revealing details of her outfit, which a fashion account, detailed with interest.
Although the photo is blurry, it is clear that Mathilde chose an original jacket for the concert.
This particular piece, a Giorgio Armani design, is made of two-tone nappa leather. It is made by Italian artisans on a “feather-light” transparent tulle base, according to the website.
The jacket has a small hidden hook closure at the waist and three-quarter sleeves.
The jacket’s $17,000 price tag has drawn a lot of attention. Many observers noted the high price.
Comments to the post included opinions such as “It’s nice but not $17K nice,” and “Not for that price,” Another user commented ” I m Belgian and a fan of the royal family but 17000€ for a jacket is really crazy in the current economic situation.”
The queen paired her expensive Armani jacket with a white blouse and black pants, as seen in the only image of the concert.
This limited visual access makes it difficult to know more details about her look.
It is important to note that luxury brands often have deals with royalty, so the fact that Mathilde wore this jacket does not necessarily mean that she spent the $17,000.
However, it is striking that she opted for such a valuable garment, given her reputation for discretion.
