After almost three weeks of enjoying their vacation in Greece, the kings of the Netherlands have had to take a break for an important reason. Albeit, with some nuances, as it was not the same for both.

While King Willem-Alexander attended the events prior to the opening of the Olympic Games, Queen Maxima of the Netherlands made an expected appearance this Friday, July 26.

Maxima chose not to attend the dinner organized by the International Olympic Committee at the Louvre Museum, which was attended by other queens such as Letizia of Spain, Mary of Denmark, Matilda of Belgium and Charlene of Monaco.

She also did not participate in the pre-reception hosted by President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte at the Elysee Palace.

Instead, she chose to attend the opening gala directly, where she was seen wearing the Olympic team uniform alongside the Danish royalty.

The reason for her absence from these formal events was that Maxima was enjoying a much more relaxing few days.

She was reportedly aboard Valentino’s luxury yacht, a highly coveted vacation spot for those who have the privilege of being guests of the famous designer.

Since Valentino was the creator of her wedding dress, the connection between the two is clear, which explains her invitation to the exclusive yacht.

The yacht, named TM Blue in honor of the designer’s parents, is a luxury vessel with five spacious staterooms that can comfortably accommodate ten guests. In addition, it has several rooms that include original artwork by artists such as Andy Warhol.

It is not known for sure if Maxima spent the night on the yacht, but it is clear that she enjoyed the Greek sea as a guest of the iconic designer, as there are photographs of the queen on deck.

The yacht departed Thursday from the port of Piraeus and sailed along the Greek coast to the other side of the country. Although it is now on its way without its illustrious guest, as Maxima made her appearance, finally, alongside her husband at the opening gala of the Olympic Games in Paris.

Like Queen Letizia, Maxima joined directly the stands for important guests on the banks of the Seine, where the parade of the Olympic teams took place.

However, their styles were quite different. Letizia wore an elegant Carolina Herrera design that she debuted last year, while Maxima opted for the uniform of the Dutch team.

The orange color, characteristic of the Dutch royal family, dominated Maxima’s outfit, matching her husband’s tie.

The queen wore a navy blue suit jacket and a basic white T-shirt with the team crest embroidered on it. Orange was worn on the raincoat and scarf, both of which came in handy due to the rain that accompanied the inauguration.

Maxima added a personal touch with her jewelry. She wore flower-shaped earrings, in the same color and composed of natural stones of different shades.

She also wore a bracelet with the nazar, the famous Turkish eye, which is used as an amulet to protect against the evil eye.

This bracelet, made of yellow gold and adorned with diamonds and small sapphires, she has owned since 2015 and wore it in Paris perhaps to wish good luck to the national team.
