Tense and uncomfortable, that’s how one could describe the particular encounter that Queen Sofia of Spain had with Corinna Larsen, the former King Juan Carlos I’s lover.
The German businesswoman herself revealed how the encounter with the wife of her long-time lover went. The explosive confession was made in the controversial podcast “Corinna and the King” where she has offered unpublished details of her relationship with the father of King Felipe.
How was the meeting between Queen Sofia and Corinna Larsen?
To begin with, Corinna spoke of her stay in La Angorrilla, a stately home located a few kilometers from La Zarzuela and which became the love nest of Juan Carlos I and the businesswoman. There she was afraid to “move” too much to avoid any kind of encounter with the king’s wife.
“I was quite afraid to set foot in the palace unless I was 100 percent sure that during my visit I would not coincide with her. Also out of respect, because the last thing I wanted was to make a scene,” Larsen admitted.
However, all precautions were of little use as she once encountered the queen while at a meeting with friends. The German recalled that it was unpleasant.
“Sofia greeted the guest and then pointed to me and said something like, ‘I know who you are,'” she said. According to Corinna, King Juan Carlos was shocked and made no comment. “It was a pretty embarrassing scene for all of us who were there,” Larsen stressed.
Although Doña Sofía’s stay was longer, the businesswoman did not want to provide other details of that uncomfortable moment.
In her revelations she also told how for her the king was her husband, and there was even talk of a wedding with an engagement ring included. Don Juan Carlos gave her an impressive piece of jewelry that she rarely wore because it was “gigantic,” she confessed.
“If we had a dinner party with some friends, then that’s when he would put the ring on. He was very proud of it. He would show it to his friends, and all the wives wanted to see it. I was just careful not to wear it to gatherings where they could see it and cause rumors around the palace,” she said.
