Queen Sofia is in the eye of the storm after the recent leak of images and audios of King Juan Carlos and Barbara Rey, which have shaken the Spanish Royal House.
Despite the media uproar and the tensions that this has generated, the mother of King Felipe VI made a public reappearance this October 7 at the ceremony commemorating the 19th anniversary of the creation of the Military Emergency Unit (UME).
However, her presence did not go unnoticed. The gestures of the emeritus queen were analyzed by the expert in non-verbal communication, Javier Torregrosa, who offered a detailed analysis to the Spanish portal Semana, where he revealed the tension that Sofia faces in the midst of this scandal.
Queen Sofia’s body language amidst the media chaos
The leak of the images of King Juan Carlos and Barbara Rey kissing, published by the Dutch magazine Privé, and the subsequent dissemination of compromising audios in which the ex-monarch spoke openly about his marriage to Queen Sofia, have put the Royal House under considerable pressure.
In the audios, released by the Spanish press, King Juan Carlos reveals intimate aspects of his relationship with Sofia, mentioning that she locks herself in her room when he is at home and that they lead practically separate lives.
“She locks herself in her room. When I see that dinner is ready and the servant (warns)… She doesn’t come down, she stays in her room. She is angry with me,” the emeritus is heard saying.
This type of statements have notably affected the image of Queen Sofia, who despite everything, decided to show her face in an official act.
Her presence at the event made it clear that, although she tries to maintain her composure, the situation has left evident traces in her behavior.
The expert analysis of Queen Sofia’s gestures
Javier Torregrosa, expert in microexpressions and founder of ‘NoVerbal’, analyzed the posture and gestures of Queen Sofia during her public appearance and detected clear signs of tension.
According to Torregrosa, several aspects of her non-verbal communication reveal that she is going through an emotionally complicated moment.
“The tilt of her head to the right indicates discomfort and stiffness,” he explained, adding that the v-shaped arrangement of her eyebrows, with the inner part going down and coming together, is a clear indication of anger.
Torregrosa also pointed out that the Queen’s direct gaze, accompanied by her furrowed eyebrows and tight lips, is a reflection of contained aggression.
“It is clear that Queen Sofia is very angry and that the situation has her under strong pressure,” concluded the expert.
The audios that shake the Royal Household
The content of the leaked audios has been one of the biggest blows for Queen Sofia. In them, King Juan Carlos details how he has distanced himself emotionally from his wife and confesses that, although she used to get annoyed by gestures of affection in public, over time she has stopped doing so.
“Now she doesn’t get upset anymore, she used to, for anything, even when I would hold her hand in public,” the ex-monarch is heard saying.
These types of revelations have not only affected the public image of King Juan Carlos, but have also put Queen Sofia in an uncomfortable situation, seeing herself dragged into the center of a media controversy that continues to resonate both in Spain and abroad.
A firm stance, in spite of everything
Despite the barrage of criticism and speculation, Queen Sofia has maintained a firm stance in her public appearances.
Experts assure that the pressure is palpable, and the non-verbal communication she exhibited in this last act is a clear reflection of the internal struggle she is living.
