Queen Emeritus Sofia of Spain is in the United States. The mother of King Felipe VI arrived in Texas this week for a very special tour.
For the queen emeritus, age does not prevent her from continuing to serve the Spanish crown, so at 84 years old, she continues to prove that she is a valuable asset for the Borbones despite the scandals involving her husband, King Juan Carlos I.
Queen Sofia in Texas
The emeritus began her official tour in the state of Texas among wines, food, and canned food, all of them with a Spanish flavor. The Queen was present at the opening day of ‘Spain Fusion’, an event aimed at professionals in the field of gastronomy held at the C Baldwin Curio Collection by Hilton hotel in Houston, reveals the Spanish portal Vanitatis.
With her presence, Queen Sofia supported Spanish gastronomy and its expansion in the United States. Renowned chefs, restaurateurs, and sommeliers participate in the event, which has a full program of events, from lectures to tastings and samplings of Spanish specialties.
Queen Sofia faced this first commitment in the United States, the first of those that mark her agenda this week.
For this first appearance in Texas, Queen Sofia was very faithful to her style, and wore a two-piece suit of pants and shirt, both in a very fluid fabric and the same print as her always inseparable scarf. The different touch was in her footwear, as she chose comfortable metallic sneakers. And, of course, she did not miss that mix of bracelets, rings, and necklaces that characterizes all her looks.
This Tuesday she will attend the presentation of the Digital Portal of Hispanic History of the Royal Academy of History.
Then she will preside, as she does every year, the Sophia Awards for Excellence 2023, awards promoted by the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute of New York. An evening that will recognize, among others, the couple formed by Gloria and Emilio Estefan.
