In an emotional service at Windsor, Queen Sofia, mother of King Felipe VI, paid tribute to the memory of her brother, the late King Constantine of Greece. After the moving tribute, the 85-year-old retired monarch resumed her royal duties.
Queen Sofia’s destiny took her to the Balearic Islands, where she received a very special recognition: the Gold Medal of the Balearic Islands.
This award is given in recognition of her tireless work in solidarity projects that benefit society, as well as her close relationship with these beautiful islands.
Queen Sofia’s red suit in the Balearic Islands
For the occasion, Queen Sofia chose an outfit that reflected her elegance and good taste. Inspired by her daughter-in-law, Queen Letizia, she chose a monochromatic red ensemble.
The centerpiece was a blazer with quilted cuffs, paired with a blouse and dress trousers with a subtle printed line down the side.
She added a distinctive touch by carrying a brown handbag, which she had worn to the wedding of her nephew Philippos of Greece to Nina Flohr in 2021.
In addition, Queen Sofia completed her outfit with a gold brooch and two necklaces that emphasized her elegance.
The Queen’s relationship with the Balearic Islands dates back to 1973, when the royal family decided to establish the Marivent Palace in Mallorca as their summer residence.
Over the years, King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia have traveled with their children to enjoy moments of relaxation in this idyllic setting.
Although she posed for the last time with all members of her family in 2007, Queen Sofia remains a respected and beloved figure in the Spanish region.
Her dedication and commitment to the Spanish monarchy remains admirable and exemplary.
