Until now, little was known about the details of the relationship of King Felipe, 54, and Queen Letizia, 51. However, in Spain people are starting to talk about the book by journalist José Apezarena, who has decided to reveal some intimate details about the couple in some chapters of ‘Los hombres de Felipe VI’ (The men of Felipe VI).
The 672 pages of the book review very important moments in the life of Felipe VI, through which he has had to go through such as the imputation of his sister Cristina, whom he stripped of the duchy of Palma, or the investigations into his father’s money abroad, which led to his abandonment of his institutional activities and self-exile in Abu Dhabi, his relationship with Queen Letizia, the birth of his daughters, Princess Leonor, 17, and Infanta Sofia, 15, among other topics.
What are Felipe and Letizia like in private?
The journalist assures that the kings married for love and that even Felipe was willing to never marry if his liaison with Letizia was forbidden. The years have proven the King right, he has built a solid relationship in which his daughters are the priority.
The author assures that Felipe is calm and Letizia is systematic:
“She is systematic, he likes to improvise from time to time. Felipe is rather slow; Letizia, quick and intuitive. He has had a hard time speaking fluently, she has done it phenomenally from very early on. Felipe tended to be shy (although not anymore), Letizia has always been quick-witted. One of the points on which they are most distant has to do with sleep and early mornings. Letizia gets up at dawn and starts working immediately and Felipe has always found it difficult to get up”.
Apezarena assures that, on a sentimental level, the kings and queens are very close:
“Felipe continues to show himself today as a romantic, convinced that Letizia is the perfect traveling companion,” says the author of the book.
Regarding Leonor and Sofia, the journalist revealed that the queen always prepared breakfast for them and dressed them by herself, while the king is defined as “very nanny-like”. Together they have raised Leonor and Sofia normally. In fact, a high official of the palace assures in the book that “They are the best educated girls I have ever seen”.
