Princess Eugenie recently celebrated a significant milestone as her second son, Ernest, turned one, adding another joyful chapter to the royal family’s story.
Born on May 30, 2023, Ernest joined Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s family, which already included their first son, August.
Eugenie, now 34, and her sister, Princess Beatrice, are navigating motherhood together. Beatrice welcomed her daughter, Sienna, in September 2021, making their journey even more intertwined.
What are the royal titles of Princess Eugenie’s children?
These royal arrivals have spiced up the line of succession. Beatrice holds the ninth spot, followed by Sienna, Eugenie, August, and little Ernest. Although August and Ernest don’t have royal titles, Sienna carries a title thanks to her father, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi’s aristocratic Italian lineage.
According to the Mirror, Sienna is entitled to be called a countess due to Edoardo’s status as the sole male heir of his family. Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi explained to the Daily Mail that Edoardo’s wife and children are entitled to the count or nobile donna titles.
However, royal titles are out of reach for Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie’s children as they aren’t direct grandchildren of the reigning monarch, now King Charles. Only the children of the monarch, the sons of the monarch, and the eldest living son of the Prince of Wales can hold HRH status and the titles of prince or princess.
A year after becoming a mother for the second time, Princess Eugenie shared heartwarming photos of her new son.
One picture captures a tender moment as big brother August gently kisses his sibling’s head.
Eugenie announced Ernest’s birth on Instagram, sharing: “Jack and I wanted to share the news that we had our little boy, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank on 30th May 2023 at 8.49 weighing 7.1lbs.”
Meaning of Princess Eugenie’s son’s name
Ernest’s name holds deep familial connections. It harkens back to George V, Eugenie’s great-great-great grandfather and the late Queen’s grandfather, who ruled from May 1910 until December 1936.
The name George honors Eugenie’s own grandfather and George Brooksbank, Jack’s father, who passed away in November 2021.
The middle name Ronnie pays tribute to Ronald Ferguson, the late father of Eugenie’s mother, Sarah Ferguson. Known as “the galloping major,” Ronald Ferguson was a former royal polo manager who passed away in 2003.
Sarah Ferguson was deeply moved by the naming of her grandson. She shared her emotions on her podcast, describing Ernest as a “seriously beautiful little boy” and expressing how the gesture brought her to tears.
