It seems that Prince Harry’s life never ceases to be surrounded by legal drama and controversy.
Whether it’s the lawsuits he has filed against the media or the mess that has arisen with his sister-in-law’s lawyer, Samantha Markle, the Duke of Sussex is learning to live in a constant whirlwind of legal matters.
Recently, Harry’s lawyer announced that the media trial will resume in January, which in itself is enough to keep him in the eye of the storm.
ut now, on top of that, a new challenge has arisen: Samantha Markle’s lawyer has made some blunt statements about the prince, which have not gone unnoticed by anyone.
What did Samantha Markle’s lawyer have to say about Harry?
As reported by Newsweek, Samantha Markle’s lawyer claimed that Harry ‘should be known as the Minister of Fiction’ and wants ‘to control our speech’.
Samantha Markle is suing Harry’s wife Meghan for defamation because of certain comments made during the couple’s Netflix series, ‘Harry & Meghan’, which premiered in December 2022.
Despite losing the case in Florida federal court, she has not given up and has taken her fight all the way to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, seeking to revive her lawsuit.
What has really caught the eye, however, is the frustration Meghan’s legal team seems to feel about how Samantha refers to her.
In the documents filed, it has been mentioned that it is incorrect to use her maiden name, ‘Markle’, rather than the title ‘Duchess of Sussex’. This small but significant difference has been described as ‘erroneous’ by her legal team.
Peter Ticktin, of the Ticktin Law Group, has not minced his words and commented to Newsweek:
‘To most of us Americans, we couldn’t give a tinker’s damn as to whether that prince is the Duke of Wales, the Duke of Sussex, or the Duke of Earl. In fact, I wish I could say it was simply a spelling mistake when he should have been the Duke of Wails.’
In a somewhat sarcastic tone, Ticktin criticizes Harry’s stance on the First Amendment in the US, pointing out that, while he is associated with a group that decides what information should be removed from the internet, his goal seems to be to control how we speak.
‘So, this foreigner, if we ever gave out titles in America, should be known as the Minister of Fiction,’ Ticktin added. ‘This Duke is here as our guest, and his goal seems to be to control our speech.’
So, as Prince Harry faces this new legal battle and his name remains in the spotlight, we can only expect the controversy to continue, because in his world, legal drama seems to be his bread and butter. And, frankly, it seems far from over.
