For some time now, rumors about a possible estrangement between King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia have been gaining strength.

According to information published by the Catalan media El Nacional, the royal couple has not shared their lives in the private sphere for more than a decade, limiting their relationship to institutional commitments and unavoidable family events.

The theory about their separation was reinforced with the revelation of an alleged infidelity of the queen with Jaime del Burgo, who a year ago claimed to have had a relationship with her and that we here at RoyalFamily.News have reported.

The possible deterioration of the marriage is not a new topic. In 2012, some media speculated with an imminent divorce that finally did not materialize.

At that time, the situation of the Crown was delicate due to the controversies surrounding King Juan Carlos I and the Nóos case with Iñaki Urdangarin.

The abdication of the monarch was on the horizon, and Felipe needed a queen at his side to strengthen the image of the institution.

Faced with this scenario, the decision would have been taken to continue together in public, although separating their private lives, following the example of the emeritus kings.

Some voices, such as journalist Maica Vasco, argue that the marriage between Felipe and Letizia was never for love, but a union of convenience.

According to this theory, the then prince had difficulties in finding a suitable partner for the throne and Letizia, with great ambition, saw in this opportunity the possibility of becoming the most powerful woman in Spain.

Her role would be clear: to give continuity to the dynasty with offspring and to fulfill her institutional duties.

Other rumors suggest that both have already found new partners.

Laura Rodriguez, another journalist quoted by El Nacional, has followed the story closely, and has affirmed that Felipe VI would be related to a wealthy heiress with family ties to Francisco Franco, while Letizia would maintain a relationship with a Catalan businessman with whom she would meet on weekends.

One of the most striking aspects of this situation is the Queen’s alleged residence in New York.

According to El Nacional, Letizia would have at her disposal an apartment in the city, supposedly financed by the Royal Household, where she would spend long weekends.

Coincidentally, this would be the same place Jaime del Burgo mentioned when telling his story with the monarch, assuring that there they planned to start a new life together.

In Spain, the separation would also be evident in their way of living.

It is said that Letizia resides in the Prince’s Pavilion, while Felipe VI would have moved to the Zarzuela Palace, located in the same enclosure, but about 900 meters away.

King Felipe and Queen Letizia presided over the meeting of the Royal Board of Trustees of the Princess of Girona Foundation.

This detail would reinforce the theory that both have opted to lead separate lives, although they continue to appear together in official acts.

Although there is no official confirmation of these rumors, the Catalan portal, continues to feed this theory of speculation about the relationship of the kings of Spain.
