This 2024 has been a complicated year for the British royal family, and the Duchess of Edinburgh, Sophie, joins the list of unpleasant news that has shaken the monarchy.
Just when we thought the bad news couldn’t get any worse, we receive the recent news of Queen Camilla’s health, which was already generating concern.
And now, in an unexpected twist, Sophie becomes the center of attention due to a somewhat embarrassing incident: a blow to the head with a golf ball.
How did the Duchess of Edinburgh get hit?
Sophie keeps her schedule active and attends various official events.
The Duchess, who is a patron of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), recently visited Legoland.
It was a fun day promoting inclusion and raising funds through fun math activities for children of various ages—an excellent opportunity to mix fun with learning.
Not only was the event a success for the noble cause, but it was attended by the likes of financial expert Emmanuel Asuquo, the iconic Johnny Ball, and Josh Smalley, a contestant on the famous “Great British Bake Off 2023” show.
In addition, students from local schools also had the chance to meet the Duchess, which made the day even more special.
However, the festive atmosphere took an unexpected turn when Sophie had a little accident.
As GB News reports, during a game of crazy golf, Sophie took a swing at the ball with her club, only for it to bounce unluckily and hit her in the face.
In a moment captured by royal photographer Tim Rooke, the 59-year-old Duchess can be seen turning her face as the ball came flying towards her, grimacing in surprise or discomfort.
Rooke shared on her social media, “Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, manages to hit herself with the ball while playing crazy golf at Legoland Windsor.”
This little incident becomes another reminder that, despite their status, royals can also have messy days and moments of slippage.
So, as the royal family goes through this challenging year, we will continue to see how they deal with unexpected and often entertaining situations.
Hopefully, Sophie will be able to laugh about this little stumble as she continues with her important duties.
