Sophie has experienced a day of community and connection in Wiltshire, the Duchess of Edinburgh has carried out a number of engagements across the county.
The Duchess’ visit highlighted the power of togetherness and service to others that so characterizes the spirit of Wiltshire.
Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh visited Wiltshire
The Duchess’ first stop was the Gul Outdoor Therapy Centre, a charity founded in 2003 that provides therapeutic outdoor activities for young people and adults.
While touring the Riverside facility, the Duchess met with beneficiaries of the charity’s equine therapy, outdoor education, gardening, and vocational training programs.
Her interactions with clients and staff at the center underscored her sincere interest in the transformative work being done there.
From Gul, the Duchess traveled to Salisbury Guildhall, where she received a warm welcome from local schoolchildren, residents, and visitors.
This special visit paid tribute to Salisbury’s first Bangladeshi mayor and his important work in bringing Salisbury’s diverse community together.
To mark the occasion, the Duchess unveiled a plaque for a tree to be planted in Queen Elizabeth Gardens this fall.
The Duchess’ final engagement of the day was with Stable and Wick Bakery and Farm Shop, a business born out of the challenges of the Covid-19 virus pandemic.
The Duchess visited the bakery and farm store. While touring the bakery and meeting with staff, Sophie learned about the store’s efforts to support local agriculture, livestock, and environmental stewardship while meeting the needs of the community.
With her visit to Wiltshire, the Duchess has once again demonstrated her commitment to recognizing the power of community service, diversity, and environmental awareness.
