A royal expert has claimed that Sophie Wessex, the wife of Prince Edward, does not have a good relationship with Meghan Markle.
The new Duchess of Edinburgh was always willing to help the Duchess of Sussex on her way to becoming a British royal. However, according to the book ‘Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait’ written by Gyles Brandreth, tensions between Sophie and Meghan began when Meghan “made it clear” that she did not need Sophie’s help and preferred to rely on Prince Harry instead.
Duchess of Edinburgh vs Duchess of Sussex
Prince Edward and his wife Sophie were recently made Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh by King Charles III, fulfilling one of the wishes of the late Queen Elizabeth II. Prior to receiving this title, Sophie was obliged to curtsy to Meghan Markle, who was a duchess and Sophie a countess.
However, now that her status has risen, Sophie no longer has to make that curtsy, which, according to a source close to the former countess, has relieved her. This highlights the strain in the relationship between Sophie and Meghan, who has been critical of the institution the Duchess of Edinburgh works for.
In the Netflix documentary, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry discussed bowing in the British royal family before a meeting with Queen Elizabeth II. Meghan initially thought it was a joke and exaggeratedly recreated a curtsy before her husband’s grandmother, which caused Harry to laugh. This episode was criticized by some royal fans, who felt that the Sussexes were disrespecting the queen and the tradition of bowing in the royal family.
