A few months ago, the British king announced that his wife, Queen Camilla, and his younger brother, Prince Edward, would join the Order of the Thistle, one of the most prestigious in Scotland.
This Wednesday, the official ceremony was held at the majestic St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh, with Charles and Camilla as the protagonists, although Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, was the one who brought a touch of color to the event.
Sophie of Edinburgh’s style in Scotland
While the King, Queen and Prince Edward wore the solemn green velvet robes and traditional white feathered hats of the Order, Sophie stood out in a pink dress with a draped neckline and fitted bodice.
This look contrasted beautifully with the formal attire of the other royals present at the ceremony.
The most charming detail of Sophie’s outfit was her wide-brimmed pamela, designed by Emilia Wickstead, which had a floral print lining.
This hat was not new, as Sophie had previously worn it at Ascot in 2019, pairing it with a dress in the same print. This small but significant detail made her ensemble, although sober, had a special touch.
Wednesday’s event in Scotland was highly symbolic and one of the most important dates in the royal calendar.
Expectations were high, especially since the king was officially investing Queen Camilla and Prince Edward, which added even more relevance to the ceremony.
However, there was one notable absence: Kate Middleton was unable to attend the ceremony, even though her presence had been considered in the official summer schedule due to the importance of the event.
Since her appearance at Trooping the Colour, Kate had been expected to participate in this symbolic event.
Prince William, known as the Duke of Rothesay in Scotland, did attend, dressed in the green velvet robe and feathered hat he received in 2012 from his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
Despite the absence of the Princess of Wales, the press once again praised the style of Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh.
Sophie has been a style icon in the royal family, and her attire at the Order of the Thistle ceremony was no exception.
