The last few weeks have been marked by key moments for the Spanish royal family, with events that stand out both institutionally and symbolically.

Felipe VI and Letizia recently concluded their second state trip of the year, a tour that took them to Italy on December 10.

During this visit, the king was distinguished with the title of doctor honoris causa, a recognition that underlines his role in strengthening international relations.

A few days later, on December 13, the Infanta Sofia starred in her first official act alone when she presided over the “Objetivo Patrimonio” photography awards. This milestone marks a further step in her formation as an active member of the royal family.

In parallel, on Monday, December 16, the Royal House published its traditional Christmas photograph. This year, the image has a special meaning, as it celebrates two decades of these annual postcards, a habit that began when the kings were still princes of Asturias.

On this occasion, the family included an emotional fragment of a poem by Francisco Brines, paying tribute to the victims of the floods.

An intense agenda before the break

Before enjoying a well-deserved Christmas break with the family, the monarchs must fulfill the last official engagements of the year.

It will not be until Thursday, December 19, when the kings and queens will finish their agenda of commitments in Cuenca, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of their honeymoon, whose first stop was precisely in this city.

    Spanish royal family’s christmas vacations

With the arrival of Christmas, the royal family is preparing for a few days of disconnection. Leonor will return to Madrid on December 22 from the Naval School of Marin, where she continues her military training.

The heir to the throne will remain in Madrid until January 11, when she will embark on the training ship Juan Sebastián Elcano.

For her part, Sofia, who is studying at the UWC Atlantic College in Wales, has been at home since December 8 and will return to her classes on January 3.
