Once again, the Marivent Palace served as the grand summer stage for the Spanish royal family. As is tradition, King Felipe and Queen Letizia hosted a reception for representatives of Balearic society, an event that this year brought together around 623 guests. But there was undoubtedly one image that many were hoping to see. That of Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia alongside their parents during their first public appearance in Mallorca.
Although the queen and her daughters had already been on the island for several days, they had kept a very low profile. Therefore, this event marked their long-awaited official photo opportunity of the summer. Queen Sofía was also present, once again accompanying the family, as in previous years, at one of the summer season’s most important events.
The reception brought together representatives from the political, cultural, business, and academic sectors of the Balearic Islands. After greeting the attendees, everyone enjoyed a cocktail in the Marivent gardens, with a menu inspired by local cuisine and prepared by renowned chefs from the islands. It’s one of those events aimed at bringing the Crown closer to Balearic society, and over the years, it has taken on a special significance in the summer calendar.
There’s one detail that I find interesting. This is only the second time that Leonor and Sofía have attended this reception, a gesture that confirms how both are gaining a greater presence on the institutional agenda. Without making major changes, the Royal Household continues to create opportunities for the two sisters to play an increasingly visible role in these types of events.
