More than a year after his diagnosis, Charles III’s health is once again a topic of conversation.
Buckingham Palace issued an urgent statement about King Charles and announced the cancellation of several scheduled events, generating some concern following the monarch’s recent hospitalization.
The news comes after the 76-year-old king himself publicly acknowledged the side effects of his cancer treatment.
Statement on King Charles’ health
According to an official statement, the decision is in response to a brief hospitalization following routine treatment.
“King Charles was hospitalized at The London Clinic ‘following scheduled and ongoing medical treatment for cancer this morning,’ Buckingham Palace said in a statement,” the Palace explained.
The note also clarified that the monarch experienced “temporary side effects that required a short period of observation in hospital.”
Charles III is currently recovering at Clarence House, and “as a precautionary measure, acting on medical advice, tomorrow’s diary programme will also be rescheduled.”
The Palace apologized for the inconvenience caused, stating: “The statement concluded with the palace sending ‘apologies to all those who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result.’
Although Buckingham Palace maintains discretion about the specific treatment and its progress, close sources assure that the king’s recovery is progressing favorably.
However, the cancellation of engagements is evident. Charles III was due to receive the credentials of ambassadors from three different nations and had scheduled four public engagements in Birmingham for tomorrow.
The situation also includes the postponement of the upcoming state visit of Charles and Camilla to the Vatican, due to Pope Francis’s health issues, as he continues to undergo a challenging recovery process.
The monarch’s last public appearance was on Wednesday, when, together with Queen Camilla, he welcomed 400 UK media professionals.
