Although it seemed that the bond between Iñaki Urdangarin and his daughter Irene had improved, the situation remains fragile.
Sources close to the Infanta Cristina revealed to the portal Monarquia Confidencial, that, despite attempts at reconciliation, the relationship between father and daughter remains tense and complicated.
Tension Continues Between Irene and Iñaki
One of the reasons behind this estrangement, they indicate, is Iñaki’s relationship with Ainhoa Armentia.
“Ainhoa’s presence has not helped to strengthen the bond between Iñaki and Irene. She feels that her father, at times, has distanced himself from her and hurt her mother,” says the source close to the family.
During the last few months, Irene lived in Madrid, where she obtained her driver’s license. However, she has recently started a new stage and has moved to England to continue her studies, while maintaining a sentimental relationship with Juan Urquijo.
Despite Irene’s efforts to get closer to her father after a period of estrangement, tensions have not ceased.
Sources explain that Irene has tried on several occasions to repair the relationship, but disagreements have complicated the process.
For his part, Iñaki has also tried to reconnect with his daughter. However, according to the same sources, this has come with an important condition: “Iñaki seeks to recover the bond with Irene, but as long as his decision to be with Ainhoa is respected.”
Throughout this whole process, Irene has had the constant support of her siblings and has been very close to her mother, especially in these complicated personal moments.
In addition, it is known that Irene’s stay at the Zarzuela Palace has caused some distance between her and Iñaki.
As for Irene’s relationship with her father’s partner, Ainhoa Armentia, the sources point out that there has not been a significant rapprochement between them. Although Iñaki received the year 2024 in Vitoria with his four children, which was a highlight, the relationship between father and daughter has not been able to consolidate.
