The Spanish royals have not had their best week and, like the British royals, are facing a difficult crisis.
While King Charles is facing accusations of racism that were published due to a “mistake” in Omid Scobie’s book, King Felipe is dealing with controversial comments made by his wife’s former brother-in-law, Jaime del Burgo.
The 53-year-old Spanish businessman claimed to have had a love affair with Queen Letizia, whom he met in 2000. Later, they allegedly continued their romance even after she was married to King Felipe.
The same allegations first appeared in the book “Letizia y yo” (Letizia and I) , written by Jaime Peñafiel, a journalist who is an expert on royalty and quite critical of the Queen.
After the revelations, all the gestures of King Felipe and Queen Letizia have been analyzed in detail to confirm if there is any tension between them.
Felipe and Letizia’s gestures
During the annual meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Cervantes Institute at the Royal Palace of Aranjuez, which took place on December 4, Felipe and Letizia appeared together and showed complicity.
Letizia, dressed in an elegant red suit, shared confidences and wasted complicity with her husband, in an image far from what was expected given the controversy.
During the meeting, King Felipe was always attentive to Queen Letizia.
It could be seen that he listened to her attentively and that the communication between them was constant throughout the meeting.
It was also evident that the King gave some advice to Letizia, who listened attentively.
However, in some moments the Queen was very serious, while Felipe was attentive to her.
In general, the complicity between the kings was constant throughout the morning, although at some point they became a bit distant from other people.
Despite Jaime del Burgo’s revelations, the king and queen continued with their official duties, and so far they have been able to keep their composure in the midst of the crisis.
Neither the Queen’s entourage nor the Royal House has commented on Jaime del Burgo’s statements.
