King Charles III introduced a new Christmas tradition in his first official year as monarch.
Charles has also made other changes to the monarchy, seeking greater utility and efficiency on an institutional and personal level.
For example, he invited Prince Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, to join the royal family.
He also invited the children and grandchildren of his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, to celebrate Christmas at Sandringham.
New tradition for King Charles
The son of Queen Elizabeth II, who was crowned in 2023 after the death of his mother, decided to spend the rest of the year-end holidays at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, instead of at Sandringham in Norfolk, as the sovereign used to do, explains The Telegraph.
This change symbolizes the new king’s desire to be closer to the memory of his mother, who died at Balmoral on September 8, 2022.
This castle was Elizabeth II’s favorite place, where she spent summers and met with her family and friends. It was her refuge and oasis of peace.
It is not known if King Charles III will continue this new Christmas tradition in Scotland or if it will be a one-off for this year.
What is clear is that the new monarch wants to make his own mark on the history of the British Crown.
