The Prince and Princess of Wales, are the epitome of a polished royal couple. But behind the poised facade, they have their quirks just like any marriage.
After over a decade together, William and Kate have shared silly nicknames, poked fun at each other, and made other questionable choices as a couple.
While mostly harmless, some of their antics have raised eyebrows.
The Prince and Princess of Wales’s rarest moments together
Inviting Exes to Their Wedding
When William and Kate planned their lavish 2011 royal wedding, they raised speculation by inviting several of their exes.
Former lovers of William such as Jecca Craig, Olivia Hunt, and Arabella Musgrave were invited. Kate also invited two ex-boyfriends from her school days; Rupert Finch and William Marks.
Having former partners at your wedding may work for some couples, but it seemed an odd choice for such a high-profile royal event.
The move showed William and Kate’s confidence but was unconventional, to say the least.
Trading insulting nicknames
William and Kate’s pet names for each other straddle the line between cute and cutting.
Kate allegedly calls William “Baldy” as a joking reference to his hair loss. William’s nickname for Kate, “Duchess of Doolittle,” pokes fun at her lack of a career pre-royal life, according to the book of Tom Quinn, Gilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family.
While meant in jest, the nicknames imply a certain level of contempt. The couple is not afraid to take digs at each other, even with their chosen terms of endearment.
Criticizing each other publicly
On more than one occasion, William and Kate have openly criticized each other in public. During a royal visit in Cyprus, Kate told William that he was a “nightmare” eating pizza on the couch.
On another occasion, at Houghton Hall, Kate blamed her poor cooking for William’s slim figure. The prince affirmed what his wife said.
They are very competitive
The recent episode of “The Good, The Bad & The Rugby” podcast hosted by Mike Tindall revealed a fun and competitive side of Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales’s relationship.
Mike claimed that the royal couple can get quite competitive with each other when it comes to sports and games.
Catherine confirmed that she and William have a hard time finishing a full tennis match, as it turns into a battle of wits and mental endurance to see who will come out on top.
William added that they both try to “out-mental” each other when they play.
After over 10 years of marriage, they are able to be silly and have fun challenging each other.
