Princess Ingrid Alexandra Borrows a Gown from Her Mother and Wears the Boucheron Tiara

At her first major official banquet, Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway made a choice of attire that did not go unnoticed, but not exactly for being novel.

The young heiress attended her first state dinner at the Royal Palace in Oslo, in honor of Iceland’s president, Halla Tómasdóttir, and she did so following a tradition she has repeated on other occasions: dressed in a garment from the closet of her mother, Princess Mette-Marit.

Although many expected to see Ingrid in a fresher look, the princess opted for a light blue dress that her mother had worn fifteen years ago, during the wedding of Princess Victoria of Sweden and Daniel Westling.

Interestingly, at that 2010 ceremony, Ingrid Alexandra – still a child – participated as a bridesmaid. Today, more than a decade later, the story took an unexpected turn: the same girl who accompanied her mother, is now the protagonist wearing that design.

The dress, created by the Danish firm Ole Yde, is a model made of baby blue crepe, with a wide silhouette, square neckline, short sleeves with semi-transparent details and a skirt with multiple ruffles.

As worn by Mette-Marit, the garment was not altered, so it was somewhat loose on Ingrid, especially at the waist.

But what really turned the princess’s styling into an iconic image was the tiara.

Ingrid Alexandra crowned her gala dinner debut with the Boucheron tiara, a piece that has a strong symbolic value.

It is a jewel that belonged to Princess Ragnhild, sister of King Harald. After her death, the tiara passed to her children, but was recovered by the monarch himself, who decided to give it to his granddaughter when she turned 18.

At the time, this inheritance was considered a significant gesture towards the future of the Norwegian monarchy.

The tiara is not new to her repertoire. Ingrid first wore it during her official coming-of-age photos in January 2022, and wore it again months later at a gala dinner held in her honor.

It was also part of her outfit in October 2023, when she traveled to Copenhagen with her parents to attend the birthday celebration of Prince Christian of Denmark.

On this occasion, she completed her look with a Rivière-type diamond necklace, long earrings and the Order of the Falcon sash, a distinction that was presented to her that same evening by the President of Iceland.
