A lot of effort went into making Phoebe Dynevor’s fancy outfit for the Met Gala.
On Monday, May 6, Dynevor, 29, wore a special dress by Victoria Beckham as she climbed the famous steps at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. She was the first person ever to attend this yearly fashion event wearing one of Beckham’s designs.
This year’s theme was “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” and Beckham really captured that with Dynevor’s beautiful pink lace gown. The dress was adorned with hand-cut flowers and had a long train.
Beckham shared more about making the dress on Instagram. She posted several photos of Dynevor posing for photographers.
“In a nod to this year’s ‘Sleeping Beauties’ theme, the ethereal silhouette was hand-crafted from archival lace, and embellished with over 300 lace appliqué flowers, hand-cut and hand-sewn onto a tulle base”
Beckham wrote in the caption, using the hashtag, “#VBMetGala.”
She also posted a video clip and more pictures of Dynevor at the star-studded event on her Instagram Stories.
This year’s dress code was “The Garden of Time,” inspired by a short story by JG Ballard. Dynevor told Vogue, “It’s like something out of a fairytale. It has this beautiful train with flowers going all the way up it… It’s very ethereal.”
“I’m very excited to be wearing color! It’s definitely new for me,” she added.
“10-year-old me could never have seen this coming,” Dynevor, whose first ever concert was the Spice Girls, told Vogue before wearing the VB gown.
Speaking to Vogue, Beckham said, “We decided to use vintage lace from our archives, as there was something quite romantic about reviving it and bringing it back to life — much like a sleeping beauty.”
“[Phoebe is] such a beautiful, talented young woman and I really wanted to design the gown with her in mind — to be almost like an extension of her. We even hand-dyed the flowers to match her skin,” she continued.
Dynevor attended her first Met Gala in 2022 wearing a black lace Louis Vuitton gown. She told Vogue she wasn’t as nervous this time around.
“The funny thing about going for the first time is you just have no idea what to expect,” Dynevor said. “There’s so much going on, and you’re seeing all these [famous] people walking in and wanting to stare at them instead.”
