Emma Webb received the surprise of a lifetime when Prince William unexpectedly joined her on day 13 of her mental health awareness charity walk from Wales to London.
The Prince of Wales offered his support to Webb, who is walking in memory of her 16-year-old daughter Brodie, who died by suicide in 2020.
Prince William surprises mental health advocate on charity walk
Prince William surprised Webb by saying “boo” to him from behind the life-size toy horse he was dragging, named Miles after his daughter’s passion for horseback riding.
Webb was surprised and delighted to see the future king expressing his admiration for her efforts to raise awareness of youth suicide.
The pair shared a warm embrace before talking about mental health for 20 minutes.
Prince William conveyed that he had come to show his support for Webb’s meaningful cause. He also graciously offered to help push Miles during the march.
Webb shared the obstacles he has faced so far on his cross-country journey. However, she told Prince William that everyone she has encountered along the way has been willing to help her.
Webb, speaking to the Daily Mail, said that having the support of the Prince of Wales means everything to her mental health advocacy.
“You can’t get a more supportive backer than the Prince of Wales, so it really means everything to me that he came out today,” she added.
She said she is amazed and grateful that the Prince of Wales has taken the time to surprise her and contribute to the vital debate about young people’s mental health and suicide prevention.
