During a military ceremony at the Army Aviation Center in Hampshire, King Charles, at 75 years old, shared information for the first time about his battle with cancer.
Although Buckingham Palace has been reserved with information about the monarch’s health since the announcement of his illness, the king himself has decided to offer some additional details.
This revelation is notable, as to date, the exact location of the cancer affecting the king has been kept private.
What did King Charles say about his health?
In a recent casual conversation, King Charles shared details about his health with Aaron Mapplebeck, a veteran of the British army.
During the exchange, Mapplebeck revealed that he had lost his sense of taste as a result of chemotherapy for testicular cancer a year ago.
This comment caught the attention of the king, who admitted to having experienced a similar side effect recently, although he did not provide further details about his treatment.
Although there has been no official confirmation from Buckingham Palace as to the exact nature of the King’s treatment, it is known that adjuvant therapy is commonly used to combat cancer and can cause changes in taste and smell, affecting eating and the enjoyment of food.
First event of King Charles and Prince William
King Charles has recently been at an event with his son, Prince William, where he awarded him the title of Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps.
William, at 41 years old, assumes leadership of the regiment previously commanded by Prince Harry, who trained as a pilot in 2009 and served in Afghanistan until 2014.
The decision has generated controversy, as it was expected that Harry would retain the title.
The news of Prince William’s new military role captured public interest, especially because it coincided with Harry’s visit to the UK.
Harry briefly returned to participate in the commemoration of the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games Foundation, an event that took place at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London on May 8th.
Afterward, the Duke of Sussex left England without having seen his father and headed to Nigeria where he joined Meghan Markle on a special three-day trip.
