Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are gradually being introduced to the life of royal service and well prepared for it.
Although they still have more than a decade to fully understand what this means and find their own interests, the three young royals will see several changes in their positions, especially in their titles.
Titles of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis
The late Queen Elizabeth II had 13 great-grandchildren, from Savannah Phillips to Ernest Brooksbank, but only the three sons of the Prince and Princess of Wales will carry titles of great historical significance.
One such official title that Prince Louis could hold in the future would be aligned with more than a century of royal tradition.
Prince Louis’s title
Prince Louis could inherit a historic dukedom when he marries. Similar to how his father was named Duke of Cambridge and his uncle, Prince Harry, was named Duke of Sussex on his wedding day, Louis could one day be the Duke of York, OK! reports.
The current holder of the title is Prince Andrew, so it would not be available to Louis if Andrew is still alive when he decides to marry.
Traditionally, the title of Duke of York has been given to the second eldest son of the monarch, so if Prince William is on the throne and the title is vacant, then Prince Louis could assume that style.
Queen Elizabeth II’s grandfather and father, King George V and King George VI, respectively, were previous Dukes of York.
This means that Queen Elizabeth II was known as Princess Elizabeth of York until her father ascended the throne in 1936.
The late Queen had several sentimental connections to this title.
Prince Louis is not the only young royal who will see a significant change in his title in the future.
His older brother, Prince George, is also destined for a major title change when his father becomes king.
Prince George’s title
Prince George is destined to become the Prince of Wales, following in the footsteps of his grandfather Prince Charles and his father Prince William. He would be the 28th person to bear this title.
Princess Charlotte will also see big changes as she grows up.
Princess Charlotte’s title
When her father becomes king and Princess Anne passes away, Charlotte will be eligible to become the next royal princess.
This title is traditionally given to the eldest daughter of the monarch and is the highest honor a female member of the royal family can receive from the sovereign.
Another possibility is that Prince Louis could become the Duke of Cambridge. However, as he is currently second in line to hold this title, behind Prince George, this may be unlikely.
But if Prince William is king when Prince Louis decides to marry, and Prince George has become the new Prince of Wales without having already received the Duchy of Cambridge, the title could potentially go to the youngest son.
This title also has a unique history, having been held by four different individuals in a span of 17 years due to various unfortunate events.
