The last few days have not been kind to Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, who has found herself under public scrutiny due to serious allegations from former employees.
These ex-collaborators have branded her as a difficult boss, even describing her as a “dictator in heels.”
This situation is exacerbated by the results of a recent poll that places Meghan last in terms of acceptance among members of the British royal family.
Adding to these concerns are rumors about her relationship with Prince Harry, controversy related to their separate engagement schedules, and the alleged mismanagement of her Archewell foundation.
What’s going on with the Archewell foundation?
According to a report by the Daily Mail, Meghan and Harry’s organization received over $6 million in grants over the past two years that have not been reflected in their tax returns.
This revelation has generated controversy, as there is uncertainty about the handling of those funds.
There is speculation that Archewell could include these amounts in its next tax return, but the finding comes at a critical period, just when the foundation had received the go-ahead to continue its activities after being cited for irregularities in the past.
Thus, the organization could be about to face months of tension and continued surveillance by the Internal Revenue Service.
In May, the California Department of Justice’s Registry of Charities and Fundraisers served notice that Archewell, the Sussexes’ foundation, had failed to file its annual report or pay renewal fees, leading to a ban on raising or distributing charitable funds.
However, sources close to the Sussexes maintained that this “notice of delinquency” was the result of a $200 check that was not processed by the AG’s office.
Nevertheless, the AG’s office confirmed that Archewell had regained its status as an active charity.
Any future setbacks, however, could raise concerns about the sustainability and management of the foundation.
