Prince Harry seems to be increasingly distancing himself from the royal spotlight, and not just by choice. Following the “failure” of his latest audiovisual projects, experts claim that his public image and appeal are in free fall.
For commentator Robert Jobson, the duke’s future does not look bright: “He’ll be a bald 50-year-old prince. Someone formerly known as Prince, that’s what he will be.”
The comment, as sarcastic as it is devastating, coincides with the imminent end of his contract with Netflix. The platform will not renew the $100 million deal that Harry and Meghan signed in 2020.
Their productions failed to connect with audiences. With Love, Meghan barely made it to 383rd place in the global rankings, and the prince’s polo series was seen by just 500,000 people.
According to sources cited by The Times, Harry always feared being overshadowed by the younger generation, especially Prince George.
“He had this thing that he had a shelf life,” said a close friend.
Now, that fear seems more real than ever. Media interest is shifting to William’s children, while Harry and Meghan try to sustain their brand in a less favorable context.
The couple has already begun to invest what remains of the money they received from Spare and streaming deals. They bought a property in Portugal, although they have no plans to live there.
The strategy aims to diversify their assets, given the high costs they face in the US and the UK. Experts wonder what they will do when the money runs out.
