Sofía of Borbón By Lillian Torres

Why was the Infanta Sofía not with her family in Zaragoza?

    27 March, 2024
Why was the Infanta Sofía not in Zaragoza
Infanta Sofia did not accompany her parents on their trip to Zaragoza with Princess Leonor.

The Infanta Sofia was absent from the last family plan of her parents, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, with her sister, Princess Leonor.

The monarchs traveled to Zaragoza to spend a day with their daughter before returning to Madrid, where they will spend a few days together during the Easter holidays.

Felipe, Letizia and Leonor went to La Almunia de Doña Godina, a historic town 53 kilometers from Zaragoza.

There they discovered the centuries-old houses and the enviable scenery.

The King and Queen of Spain visited their daughter, Leonor in Zaragoza.

The family regained their strength over dinner at the restaurant of the Hotel El Patio.

The monarchs and the princess tasted the typical dishes of the place and, at the end, did not hesitate to take a photo with all the staff of the establishment.

Why was the Infanta Sofía not in Zaragoza?

The reason for his absence is due to his classes at the UWC Atlantic College in Wales (UK), where he is currently studying.

Although the Easter holidays have already begun, the boarding school will not be closed until Thursday, March 28th.

In addition, the Infanta Sofia will finish her homework before returning to Spain.

It is expected that upon her return, the royal family will be able to enjoy time together and make plans related to their values.

This absence of the Infanta Sofia in the family schedule is a sign of the changes that the current monarchs have decided to make in order to break with previous traditions.

Although these days together are short, they represent an opportunity to catch up and enjoy each other’s company, especially considering that they will again be separated from the upcoming dates due to their academic commitments.

    Changes in true family traditions

In the past, the Easter holidays were marked by traditional institutional events that had been celebrated for years.

One of these events was the Mass that was celebrated every Easter Sunday in the Cathedral-Basilica of Santa Maria de Mallorca.

However, this custom seems to have been broken since 2018, after a controversy between Queen Letizia and her mother-in-law at the doors of the temple.

This incident was a turning point for the royal family and since then Felipe, Letizia, Leonor and Sofia have not set foot in Mallorca at Easter.

The relationship between Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía

The relationship between Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia is one of great complicity, despite the fact that they are separated due to their academic commitments.

The sisters are an example to deepen the relationship between older and younger siblings.

Although Sofia’s absence in this family plan may attract attention, it is important to consider that her boarding school in Wales is a priority in her education and personal development.
