William of Wales By Lillian Torres

A year later, the reason William and Kate arrived late to see King Charles crowned comes to light

Kate Middleton and Prince William were not on time for King Charles’ coronation on May 6, 2023, causing a bit of chaos before the big event.

According to royal expert Robert Hardman’s book, “The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy,” King Charles and Queen Camilla showed up too early for their crowning at Westminster Abbey.

Hardman explains in his book that the Prince and Princess of Wales and their kids were running late by about a minute and a half.

They were supposed to be there eight minutes before the King and Queen, but they ended up arriving after them. This caused some stress for everyone involved.

A lipreader caught King Charles saying, “We can never be on time…There’s always something…This is boring,” while they were in their coach. Hardman sees this as a sign of the pressure the King was under.

Why were William and Kate late for King Charles’s coronation?

The author mentions that some people think William and Kate making a coronation video added some extra time to their schedule.

Others suggest that because the King got to the abbey early, it messed up the Waleses’ timing.

The delay caused some last-minute changes to the schedule. The Waleses and their kids had to enter after the King and Queen instead of before them.

Despite the hiccups, King Charles and Queen Camilla’s coronation went smoothly.

Prince William’s important role in the line of succession was clear when he knelt before his father during the ceremony.

Prince George also made history by being the first future monarch to take part in a coronation service.

Later, Prince William and Princess Kate showed up with all their kids at Buckingham Palace to support the new King, showing their significant role in the royal family.
