A 19 year old armed with a crossbow was arrested on Christmas morning after trying to break into Windsor Castle while Queen Elizabeth was celebrating Christmas.
Police broke the news on Sunday. The intruder, who is from Southampton, a port city in southern England, reportedly used a rope ladder to climb a metal fence.
The subject was arrested moments after having entered the castle grounds but failed to enter any building.
The young man is accused of rape or breaking into a protected site and possession of an offensive weapon, as a crossbow was found in his possession.
“The man was arrested and has undergone a mental health assessment; it has since been sectioned under the Mental Health Act and remains under the care of medical professionals,” London police said.
The Mental Health Act allows authorities to detain and treat people with mental health problems without their consent when they are deemed to pose a risk to themselves or others.
