Paul Burrell, 64, can boast that he worked as a butler for the two most influential people of the last decades: Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana.
Burrell, who for 21 years dedicated his life to serving the royals, has decided to reveal some unknown anecdotes about the British royal family.
At the age of 18 he began working for the family for what have been many years where he lived a myriad of situations that has now brought to light in ‘Viajando con Chester’, a program presented by Risto Mejide.
Paul began working as a personal lackey of Elizabeth II, then became one of the trusted men of the Princess of Wales.
Confessions of Paul Burrell: “No one has ever said no to her, except Diana”.
The former butler of Princess Diana talked about how Prince Charles was at that time in the intimacy and defined him as a man “with a lot of temperament” and who likes to have everything under control. He even recounted one of the disputes he had with the current King of England.
It all started when Diana of Wales went to Burrell to find out where her husband, the then heir to the throne, was. Burrell confessed that he had left, but would not tell her where or with whom (Charles had left with Camilla). When Charles learned that the butler had revealed his departure, they began an argument, which he has revealed on the show:
“He said to me, ‘Did you speak to the princess yesterday, what did you tell her?’ And I said, ‘That you were out.’ He said, ‘And why did you tell her that? You can’t lie? I am the prince of Wales. One day I will be king of this country and you will do what I say. I pay your salary and you will do exactly what I ask you to do’. Then he picked up a book and threw it at me,” Burrell said.
Diana was treated badly by the British royal family
The former butler has confirmed that the royal family “treated Diana badly” and the first to do so was Charles III himself. He claimed that the now King thought his wife was crazy and that no one had ever said no to her except Diana and that bothered him.
“She dared to say no to her husband and paid the price,” reveals the butler
The confidant of the mother of Prince William and Prince Harry revealed that the publication of the book of memoirs signed by Andrew Morton and the interview with Martin Bashir was the trigger for the relationship between Diana and Queen Elizabeth II and Philip of Edinburgh to break forever.
Paul Burrell recalls that, during the divorce between Charles and Diana, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip supported the princess.
“I would read the correspondence [to Diana] and all the Queen’s letters had the signature ‘your loving mother.’ Those from the Duke of Edinburgh: ‘Your loving father.’ The book was the straw that broke the camel’s back.” If it hadn’t gone that far, no one had brought up the dirty laundry; the interview was too much.”
He was a confidant of Princess Diana
The former butler had no qualms about revealing some intimacies. He declared that he was the one who brought Hasnat Khan, the surgeon he wanted to marry in July 1997, into the palace. Burrell transported him in the trunk of his car.
The confidant denies that the princess was engaged to Dodi Al-Fayed before the accident and denied that she was pregnant when she died.
He also recalled Lady Di’s words to him before the fatal accident:
‘Be careful, Paul. There are forces at work in my country that even I don’t know about’.
Paul Burrell and Prince Harry
Paul has given his opinion on the decisions made by Diana’s youngest son, Prince Harry. He assured that he supported the Duke in his decision to leave the firm, but everything changed after the release of the Netflix documentary and, later, the book ‘Spare’.
“He has crossed the line of loyalty and gone over to the commercial side of celebrity. Harry has sold his soul to the devil….” “Receiving millions to tell secrets about his family,” he sentenced.
Time is running out
Burrell has said he has many important things to tell William and Harry. After learning that he has prostate cancer he is preoccupied with the idea that he is running out of time.
