The emeritus king does not have any pending case with the justice in Spain, his investigations have been archived. As a result, the king communicated his intentions to return to the Iberian country and has done so this past weekend.
Harassment of Corinna Larsen: King Juan Carlos’ latest pending case with the courts
The father of Felipe VI is still in the spotlight of justice, but in the United Kingdom, as Judge Mathew Nicklin has rejected his immunity and has left the door open to be tried for alleged harassment, stalking and illegal surveillance of his lover, Corinna Larsen, who has asked the High Court of London for a restraining order and compensation.
The judge will not halt the proceedings although Juan Carlos’ lawyers have appealed to the Court of Appeal of the High Court of Justice of England and Wales the decision not to consider him immune for acts involving his private life. Unless the lawyers of both parties reach an out-of-court settlement, the emeritus king will have no choice but to appear in the British court.
The German businesswoman knows Juan Carlos I’s economic secrets. In recent years she has made several statements and accusations about hidden fortunes of the monarch who was also investigated by the Swiss Prosecutor’s Office.
Larsen has assured that she has received “harassment” from the monarch and the Spanish secret services. According to her, so that she would not reveal state secrets that she could have in her possession, to resume the love affair and to return to the monarch a series of gifts, among them 65 million euros allegedly from the commissions of Juan Carlos I.
The businesswoman’s complaint includes several episodes of “exhaustive surveillance”, raids on her residences in Monaco and London and illegal interception of cell phones and email accounts. All this was carried out by the Spanish National Intelligence Center.
Judge Nicklin has given a respite to the defense of the emeritus king as the next hearing will be held on July 1.
With no more pending accounts in Spain, Juan Carlos is expected to return periodically to Spain to visit family and friends.
