This Monday, February 6, 2023, the Royal House announced that the Infanta Sofia of Spain, 15, will study at the UWC Atlantic College in Wales, the same college where Princess Leonor, 17, studies, who will finish her academic preparation in May.
For the Infanta, the process to enter the prestigious boarding school has not been easy. Sofia is currently in the fourth year of ESO at the Santa Maria de los Rosales school in Madrid and in September she will begin a new stage in her academic preparation which will take her two years away from Spain.
How Infanta Sofia was selected at the UWC Atlantic College
According to some media reports, the daughter of Queen Letizia, 50, and King Felipe VI, 55, had to meet a series of requirements like any other teenager.
Out of 3,000 applicants, the Atlantic College only selected 20, among them the Infanta. The youngest of the Spanish royal family went to the evaluation site only accompanied by a bodyguard. According to witnesses, she was very nervous before the exam.
The tests included a role-playing game or group dynamics; with topical issues such as the war in Ukraine or environmentalism. Afterwards, they were given a personal interview about two responsibilities of their own, two ideas that no one will change in their way of thinking and two big mistakes they could have made.
At the end of the interviews, the names of the 20 chosen were decided and they were subsequently informed that they had been admitted to the school.
